Tired of “Cookie Cutter” News Postings
Posted on September 29th, 2004 in Personal |
I’m tired of the new tread of news sites posting cookie cutter type news. It makes me a little sick. Google News is a great way of seeing what I’m talking about. Just do a search for whatever. You should see a grouping of similar news items. They are the same exact crap with maybe two lines different. Yahoo, MSNBC, CNN, CNET News, etc. The all get the news briefs from Routers or the AP, and they all basicly a retype of the same damn story. The worst part is that they end up getting their facts wrong, or end up missing the point of the story all together.
Sometimes these “News” articals are nothing more then just a rebranding of press releases (or as I like to call them, “our public statement of our own made up bullshit and lies about how good and wonderful around pruducts/we are and how our people who have anything negitive to say about are bad communists that smell like poop.”). Basicly its ads being served up as news. A good example is an aritcal titled “Next version of Windows to be easier and more secure” which just happened to be based on nothing but a rehash of Microsoft press release. No research had been done to verify the statements of Microsoft by the news company. All they did was remind people that they had been reporting news breifs on it since Microsoft first started to rant on what they are going to do to say “Look at us. We were first to get it wrong.” Worst part of it all is that its the same damn shit rehashed 400 times to make the chance of misinformation grow.
There has to be something more news worthy and is more imporant then this. Any wars going on in Africa that we can hear about? Any student in the US ace a state spelling bee? What about people recovering from the problems in Florida with the huricanes? What is Florida planing on doing this year for the election issues we had 2 years ago? How about talking about the national blood shortages and the need for people donate blood? Anyone hear about any animals or grass fires going on? Has anyone been abuducted lately?
PLEASE! Get off your asses and find some damn news. You know its there. You hear about news happening around us in our communities every day. I’m tired of news stations using the phrase “continuing coverage” of some one thing that isn’t moving and having guest speculate back and forth over nothing.
